I'm a parent, carer, or support person

You can support by attending the virtual coaching call which best prepares them for the Virtual Discovery Centre Day. They will need a computer, tablet or a mobile phone as well as a wifi connection to access the Virtual Discovery Centre Day. If they don’t have access to any of these you’ll needed to support them by helping them look for libraries, schools or colleges etc with access to these.

We want to make sure they feel confident to take part in the process, and we encourage them to let us know if they need any support or reasonable adjustments.

If the person applying has a disability or long-term health condition, we ask that they inform us of these at the start of their application, so Tesco can provide them with any support needed to help them be at your best.

Yes, we'll provide uniform to all our Stronger Starts apprentices when they join us. They'll need to provide trousers and shoes unless they need safety shoes which we'll supply.

We're offering 150 opportunities in England, each store has been allocated between 1-2 apprentices.

We'll be hosting a welcome induction day on the 23 September where they maybe asked to travel to a different store location, but don't worry we can help support with travel expenses to attend.

We know that working and learning can be a challenge, that's why they'll have a network of people to support them, from expert 1-1 pastoral support from The Prince’s Trust to a dedicate Lifetime Apprenticeship coach so they'll be someone there every step of the way. They'll also be welcomed by our friendly store team and given a buddy who will be on hand to offer advice as well as guide and support them throughout their time with us. We'll also provide them with £3.50 per day towards their lunch cost for the first four-weeks of them working with us.

Starts at 20 days pro rata plus a personal day and bank holidays too. This rises to 22 days after 12 months.

If you they're feeling unwell and they can’t come to work, they'll need to let us know. They just need to call the duty manager at their store as soon as possible but no later than one hour before their shift is due to start.

Statuary Sick Pay (SSP) is payable to eligible colleagues from the 4th day of absence.

Application process

We operate an online digital application process consisting of applying for the programme, followed by a video interview, neither of which are time-consuming. If you're successful, a Virtual Discovery Centre will follow which is the final stage of the application process.

Absolutely. As a Disability Confident Leader we want to support all applicants entering our recruitment process with any reasonable adjustments they may need. You can reach us at apprenticeshipandgraduaterecruitment@tesco.com or call 01635 888361 to chat through the details further.

You're given practice questions before the real assessment starts. Take advantage of these to make sure you understand what you have to do in the assessment. Often, you can re-read the instructions and redo the practice questions multiple times.

Please email apprenticeshipandgraduaterecruitment@tesco.com and we’ll look into any issues for you.

Virtual Discovery Centre

These are held virtually.

We believe that you perform your best when you're yourself. So whether this is smart/casual or your best business attire, you should feel comfortable and confident - we're interested in you, not your outfit, so please don't worry! Our interviewers will be dressed smart/casual.

Our Virtual Discovery Centres are designed with you in mind, if you're successful and have been invited to a Virtual Discovery Centre, you'll receive a coaching call beforehand which will provide you with a good understanding of what to expect on the day.

We’d suggest that you think about your motivations and passion for joining on the apprenticeship and why at Tesco. Ahead of the day we’ll send you some questions to help you best prepare for the day.

You'll need access to a working laptop, tablet device or mobile phone which has a working camera and microphone and can support Microsoft Teams. You'll also need a Wi-Fi connection to attend the Virtual Discovery Centre day.

Please don’t worry. If you’re invited through to the Virtual Discovery Centre, we ask that you explore using equipment via your school, college, local library or carers/parents and family friends. If you're unable to organise any equipment, please contact us at apprenticeshipandgraduaterecruitment@tesco.com so that we can chat through how we can support you.

These will be held on Tuesdays in July and August.

After the Virtual Discovery Centre, a member of the team will call you to give you your feedback and outcome from the day. All feedback is provided to help you to reflect on any key messages and how you might use them in the future. If you’re successful in securing a place on our Stronger Starts Retail Apprenticeship, you’ll be contacted about providing us with some personal details so we can raise your contract. If you’re unsuccessful, you’ll be signposted to support from The Princes Trust.
