Help colleagues live healthier lives
We’ve teamed up with our three new charity partners, British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK and Diabetes UK, to help tackle some of the UK’s biggest health challenges. Our first priority is about supporting all our UK colleagues, so they can be their best at work and at home.
Working with Timewise
“Flexible working arrangements allow us to attract and retain the best people in the industry. We are delighted to be working with Timewise on this programme which will help us to ensure all our colleagues, in all job roles and at all levels, have the opportunity to get on.” - Natasha Adams, People Director UK & Ireland
The Great Tesco Walk
“For me, The Great Tesco Walk brilliantly sums up who we are as a business, what we do and why we do it. Blisters aside, I think those lucky enough to partake have benefited not only from the exercise but also how it makes us feel - helping the crucial work of Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation and enjoying the company of brilliant people who share passion for the business." George Gordon, Corporate Communications & Campaigns Director
Hanging out at the Gym Trail
We're all for promoting health, that's why we recently had a Gym Trail installed around our office campus, so colleagues can get fit on the go and have fun too!
An opportunity to change young peoples’ lives
We are delighted to announce we’re launching a 3-year partnership with The Princes Trust. Tesco colleagues will have an opportunity to volunteer to use their own work and life experience to support young people to develop their employability and life skills. Helping pupils just like Alfie achieve success.
At Tesco, inspiring and helping colleagues to look after their whole well-being is really important to us. Here's some of the things we offer to ensure our colleagues feel great whether they're working from home or the office:
The great news is, we're a big business with diverse shift patterns and many business areas which means that we can find something that works for you. Opportunities don’t need to be structured – part-time, job-shares, there’s no limit. It really can give you the best of both worlds – a career and family life. Depending on where you work, flexible working can include:
We've also partnered with Timewise and signed up to the Retail Pioneers Programme which aims to help retailers maximise the benefits of workplace flexibility.
With the recent development of our office campus in Welwyn Garden City, we've introduced ‘smarter working’ so colleagues can shape their day around their role, the team and the business needs. Whether it means starting work at 8am and finishing at 4pm, working from home, or another arrangement agreed with their manager.
Environment means a lot in our offices, so we champion the flexible approach with hot desking, ample meeting rooms and informal meeting/breakout spaces. We also have cool outdoor spaces, with ping pong tables and table football. Plus, you'll get a laptop so you can make the most of our flexible working policy.
A happy work environment means happy colleagues and happy customers.
We have a series of wellbeing guidance and resources to support you such as:
Nuffield Health with Health Partners provide health checks, medical services and occupational health and work related counselling for all colleagues. There is access to a series of discounts and benefits including Virtual GP, Nuffield Health Gyms and physio and counselling services. In addition to this we offer deals and discounts with other key partners including: Gympass for colleagues to have access to a gym near them, Cycle to Work, Vision Express, and Weight Watchers.
We host a series of health and wellbeing events throughout the year to support and engage colleagues in the UK on the wellbeing topics that are most important to them, which we listen and learn about as part of our charity health partner survey. Over the last 18 months we have focused on Women’s health, specifically breaking down stigma and understanding the menopause, nutrition, how to get better quality sleep and more recently, a series of webinars on subjects from financial wellbeing to grief and loss support during Covid-19.
Over the next three years, we will work with the Prince’s Trust to support its Achieve Clubs. These Clubs are established in over 500 UK secondary schools and give disadvantaged young people the opportunity to develop the skills they need for the future. Tesco colleagues will have an opportunity to volunteer to use their own work and life experience to support young people to develop their employability and life skills.
