Our Food Buying team sources great quality products to give our customers the best range, at the best prices. So on this programme, you’ll help manage relationships with suppliers and set up exciting new product ranges. You’ll start by spending 12 weeks working in stores, getting to know how they operate. Then you’ll complete rotations on both our fresh and packaged food buying teams, giving you a breadth of experience and the chance to build all sorts of skills such a negotiation and supplier management.
Whichever function you follow, by the end of your programme you will have gained all the necessary skills and knowledge you need to set you up for success, but your journey doesn’t stop there, as this programme gives a great foundation to accelerate your career to become a senior leader in our business.
We’re looking for grads with a passion for products and a love for food. It’s not essential that you have any previous experience but it definitely helps if you have a commercial mind, are comfortable with data and curious of market trends and changes.

Our leafy, green campus is 10 minutes' walk from the centre of Welwyn Garden City with its many shops, restaurants, pubs and sports facilities. Close to the A1, and with frequent trains running to Finsbury Park in just 20 minutes (free shuttle buses take you between the station and office), the campus is well connected to the surrounding area.
On campus, you'll find subsidised restaurants and coffee shops, as well as a Tesco Express to pick up your lunch or last-minute essentials. We also have our Heart Building, a place where colleagues can connect and come together, to unlock innovation and collaboration and a place where they can network and socialise. Plus we have an on-site Nuffield Health gym, which has state-of-the-art equipment, studios for classes, plus treatment rooms (membership costs £23.50 per month).

Store experience
You'll start off by spending 12 weeks in stores, this is a great opportunity to really understand and get involved in what our colleagues do everyday to serve our customers and communities.
Programme structure
You’ll gain a breadth of product experience and skills as you complete a number of placements in different parts of either our food buying or supply chain areas.

There are a wide variety of job opportunities for you to apply for as you finish your programme. There’s also an opportunity to complete a post programme senior leader level 7 apprenticeship, with a possibility to top up to a MBA, helping you to accelerate your knowledge, skills and behaviours to help you become a future leader in our business.
